Indonesia – Surabaya-based film producer expands with POLYSTAR
Increased monthly capacity by 4 times (400%)
Located in Surabaya, Indonesia, the 54-year-old company has recently gone through the most aggressive expansion in the past 8 years (from the year of 2016 to 2024), increasing from 500 tons per month to nearly 2,000 tons per month in LD/LLDPE and HDPE film and bag production.
The well-established company now produces a wide range of products including agricultural film, ice bags, inner bags for jumbo bags, industrial bags for hardware, packing for the food industry (such as chocolate bags), transparent bags for the traditional markets (for packing items such as slippers) and many others, supplying to its customers locally in Indonesia as well as exporting its products to Japan.
18 POLYSTAR film extruders installed
Besides expanding its product portfolio to enter different market sectors and constructing new manufacturing facilities, one of the most important investments has been adding new machinery, which includes a total of 18 POLYSTAR lines.
On average, POLYSTAR has custom-built 2 to 3 machines every year for the Indonesia-based film producer during this expansion period, from single, and double die heads to multi-layered co-extrusion lines, each machine has been designed specifically (with various screw sizes of 45mm, and 55mm, 65mm, 75mm, different machine configurations, screw design and auxiliary) to be able to produce each specific product (width, thickness, materials used) with higher efficiency.
Easy machine operation
“We feel very lucky to have found POLYSTAR in 2016, “ said Mr. Gunawan, owner of the now 2,000-ton-per-month company that continues to develop. “The machines are simple to operate, production is very stable, and we can produce products of excellent quality to satisfy our customers,” he added, during an interview in the Plastic Rubber Indonesia exhibition when POLYSTAR displayed a 75mm twin head LDPE blown film machine that he had purchased.

Additionally, Mr. Gunawan points out that “it makes the machine start-up much easier and faster every time we need to change the materials in the machines. As a result, this saves us a significant amount of material waste that we would otherwise generate.”
Recycling is now an integral part of the operation
Besides the blown film extruders, the company has also acquired two POLYSTAR plastic recycling machines to cope with the increasing demand of the company as well as the market trend.
It first added a 250kg/hour in-house recycling machine back in 2017. Due to the increasing importance of using recycled material, the company decided to invest in a second recycling line -- a 500kg/hr, two-stage recycling machine in 2023 to be able to increase the recycled content in its products.
